625 West Adams
Stitched into Chicago’s West Loop, 625 West Adams is a 20-story speculative office building designed in response to the various contextual influences of the transforming neighborhood.
The transparent glass north façade features two large outdoor terraces and the main lobby entrance, which are positioned to take advantage of the views of Heritage Green Park. The west façade reduces the amount of vision glass with a grid pattern of metal and glass to mitigate solar loads and control views to the residential property across the street. This patterned façade rises up and over the building and peels back toward Lake Michigan to reveal a steel trellis that caps the tower. The building’s 400-car parking garage and a large, 1,500-seat ground floor auditorium supports the programs and congregation of the neighboring Old St. Patrick’s church during non-business hours.
Though the building is new construction, SCB sought to inject some of the West Loop’s industrial aesthetic into the amenity spaces. Exposed concrete, reclaimed wood, and dark metal accents provide a material and textural juxtaposition to the glassy, modern architecture of the building. The main amenity floor was envisioned primarily as a social complement to the office floors below, offering casual, communal spaces and a shared fitness facility. A large kitchen and bar area welcomes tenants to gather for lunch or social events in the evening. An adjacent lounge area connects to a generous, shared 2,000-square-foot terrace with views of the Willis Tower and downtown. Rounding out the amenity floor is a flexible conference space that can host larger meetings or be partitioned into smaller meeting rooms. The project is certified LEED Silver.
