The 370,000-square-foot, LEED Silver certified FedEx Cargo Facility, located at O’Hare International Airport, is composed of four buildings - World Service Center, Sort Building, Aircraft Maintenance Building, and Vehicle Maintenance Building.
Public access is through the 24,000-square-foot World Service Center (WSC), which contains management offices, conference rooms, training rooms, a break room, and a public service center. The building features a vegetated roof, high-efficiency mechanical and plumbing systems, and a high-performance building envelope. The WSC connects to the secure Sort Building via a 300-foot-long pedestrian bridge spanning over the active airfield and separating the two buildings.
The 307,000-square-foot Sort Building contains the material handling systems and sortation matrix, as well as staff offices, locker rooms, facility maintenance spaces, and other support spaces. The Sort Building features a 177,000-square-foot continuous vegetated roof, the largest green roof in Chicago.
The 14,000-square-foot Aircraft Maintenance building provides service and support to crews maintaining air operations for FedEx’s aircraft, while the 25,000-square-foot vehicle maintenance building contains ground service equipment bays, vehicle storage, a full-size truck wash bay, materials storage, staff workrooms, offices, breakroom, and locker rooms. The site has parking for 300 employees, a 15-car visitor lot, and 160 dedicated tractor trailer spaces, as well as parking for a fleet of ground service equipment.
