Līlia Waikīkī
Līlia Waikīkī is a 615,000-square-foot, 28-story residential tower located in the heart of Waikiki. Developed in conjunction with the Queen Emma Land Trust, the project offers 402 apartments, 20 percent of which are affordable units, ranging from studios to three bedrooms. The tower respects the mauka-makai axis and is wrapped with a façade of punched windows to relate with the existing urban fabric. A glass volume breaks through the center of the tower, opening the interiors to views towards the mountains and the ocean.
The podium will incorporate 40,000 square feet of retail space on two levels facing Kuhio Avenue, activating the pedestrian realm. Residential amenities located within the podium levels include a co-working space, fitness center, indoor lounges, and pool terrace.
Several local natural and cultural references inspired the design of the new tower. Forms and patterns created through interplay of the ocean and sand inspired the relationship between the glass façade and a series of lanais that ascend the tower in an undulating rhythm, akin to ripples in sand created by ocean waves.
SCB sought to infuse the project with the spirit of the island’s beloved Queen Emma and her passion for the environment, wellness, and the preservation of culture. Her love of flowers, specifically the lily, is reflected in the pattern on the perforated panels that envelope the podium, as well as in the name of the project. An existing exceptional banyan tree is preserved to become the center of a new resident courtyard, enhanced with native landscaping.
